A Sad Veteran

😔 Could I have done something differently?

🪖 Mr. Jiří lived a long life but endured a troubled youth, haunted by a question that returns almost daily. At 17, he was forcibly taken to Germany as part of the war effort.

❗️ However, he managed to escape and joined a resistance group, contributing to the liberation of his beloved Jičín.

😔 Out of the four musketeers of that time—young boys and loyal friends—he was the only one to survive the war. To this day, he is tormented by the thought of whether he could have done something differently to save his comrades.

And so, the route of our Ambulance of Dreams led to a memorial honoring those who perished in the final battles of the war. We visited his grandmother's house in Bukvice and touched an old commemorative plaque in a former tavern—a memory of his uncle, a soldier in the French legion.

Once again, we extend our gratitude to Vlčí mák, the home for war veterans at the Central Military Hospital in Prague, for their collaboration.
